The Temple of Literature
 
This popular tourist destination well known as the first university in Vietnam from feudal period, is a must-visit for anyone who loves history and a step back in time.
Located to the south of the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long, Temple of Literature was founded in 1070, almost 1000 years ago, by Emperor Ly Thanh Tong. It is one of several temples in Vietnam which worship the Confucius, sages and scholars. In 1076,  Quoc Tu Giam (or Imperial Academy) considered as the first university in Vietnam,  was established within the temple during the reign of Lý Nhân Tông to educate Vietnam's bureaucrats, nobles, royalty, and other members of the elite. 
 
Today, visitors can have a tour of the five courtyards and stroll through them along winding paths. The names of the students are immortalised there on steles, along with awards and achievements. A beautiful park with lotus and water lily ponds borders the temple.
 
For the residents of Ha Noi, Temple of Literature is not only of the greatest cultural importance, it is also one of the quietest and most peaceful places to have a getaway from the turbulent city. According to Travelbook, many European visitors describe the special harmony that can be felt in the almost thousand-year-old walls as a "profound experience".
 
Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum
 
Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum has long been considered as the first place to come for the first time travellers to Hanoi thanks to its tremendous historical value. Located on the large Ba Dinh Square, this building is one of the most important sights in the country. Vietnamese people come there to pay respect to the Greatest President and the beloved Father of the nation.
 
One Pillar Pagoda
 
Another symbol of Ha Noi City's thousand years of civilization, here, back to the Ly’s dynasty, One Pillar Pagoda was holding many names, such as Dien Huu pagoda or Lotus Temple. Its particular structure with only one pillar resembles a giant lotus blossom to show deep gratitude of the king to Avalokitévara. Visitors coming here will have a chance to get to know about the folk legend associated with this symbolic pagoda of Ha Noi.

Visitors should have a deep glance through Ha Noi’s 36 glorious old streets on a cyclo, listening to many word-of-mouth stories spreading among local people and immersing to the bustling life of Vietnamese old town people. Visitors can also stop by various street food stalls to enjoy local cuisine or buy souvenir gifts at traditional handicraft shops, visitors can also many interesting odds and ends in here.
 
Water puppetry show
 
A visit to a water puppet theatre is also a must in Ha Noi. Visitors will have an amazing experience cultural tourism by art performances with Vietnamese traditional music and dance, combined with contemporary and poetic features, introducing specific cultural features of ethnic groups and regions of the beautiful country of Vietnam.
 
Enjoy a bowl of Pho
 
It is not a perfect trip to Ha Noi if visitors miss to have a sip of this traditional and symbolic cuisine. Welcoming a new day with a bowl of Pho is more than an idyllic way to kick off the energy. The aromatic soup is prepared with lots of fresh herbs, rice noodles and beef. In some places, vegetarian options are also offered.
