All the details you need to know for your Vietnam visa. A detailed article into your questions about Vietnam’s visa policies.

In recent times, especially since after COVID, March 15, 2022, the Vietnam visa policy has been increasingly more open, administrative procedures have been reformed and modernized for improved efficiency. Vietnam E-visa is experiencing steady growth and yielding good results. Visa procedures are becoming progressively simple, fast, transparent alongside with visa exemption for 13 countries (regarrding of entry’s purposes). With a streamlined process, Vietnam has created a more inviting atmosphere for foreigners to travel, opening avenues for the expansion of tourism, and open many doors for foreign investment and commerce.

Firstly, thoroughly check if your passport is eligible for visa application or to be allowed entry into Vietnam. You need a valid passport with at least 6 months until expiry, in good condition, without damage or tears, and with at least 2 blank pages for visa stamps.

Secondly, verify if you are eligible for visa exemption. As of 2024, there are a total of 26 countries that are allowed entry without visa into Vietnam. For those eligible for visa exemption, be sure to review each country's specific policies, as they may vary in duration, purpose, and numbers of entries.

For those who are not eligible for visa exemption, the visa application process is fairly simple, quick and versatile. There are multiple ways to have your visa application processed. The most common way to apply for a Vietnam visa is to locate, contact and visit the nearest Vietnamese Embassy in you area, it will take 3-5 business days to process. However, if there are no Vietnamese Embassy in your local area, you can apply for E-Visa or Visa upon arrival.

E-Visa (EV):

The Vietnam visa policies now allows citizens from all countries worldwide to obtain an e-visa. Instead of the previous 30-days single-entry validity, the current Vietnam e-visa can last up to 90 days for single or multiple entries.

Currently, travelers can apply for e-visas through the Electronic Portal of the Immigration Department of Vietnam. However, when applying, besides filling in all required information correctly, travelers should be careful to avoid common mistakes that can delay the visa approval process, such as providing incorrect name formats or uploading inappropriate photos.

To minimize these risks, you can opt for the e-visa assistance service provided by Vietnam-visa. With over 16 years of expertise in the industry, Vietnam-visa knows how to handle your visa application correctly according to the Immigration Department's requirements.

Visa upon arrival (at airport only):

Visa issued upon arrival is especially convenient for individuals living far from a Vietnamese Embassy/Consulate. If you apply for a Vietnamese visa this way, you won't have to visit the Embassy nor send your passport there. With this method, you'll receive an approval letter within a maximum of 02 working days (regular service) or 1 working day (urgent service) (or even 2 - 4 working hours for extremly urgent service). This letter of approval is issued by the Vietnam Immigration Department, serving as proof that you're allowed to board the plane to Vietnam and will receive a visa stamp upon landing at an international airport in Vietnam.

Following are the steps for an upon-arrival visa:

1. Fill out and sign the visa application form online.

2. Print the form and attach a 4x6cm photo to the top left corner of the form. Also prepare an extra photo of the same size.

3. Prepare cash to pay the stamping fee upon arrival at Vietnam airport ($25 for single-entry visa, $50 for multiple-entry visa valid up to 3 months, $95 for multiple-entry visa valid up to 6 months, and $135 for multiple-entry visa valid up to 1 year).
