1. Son Doong Cave was discovered thanks to rain
Son Doong was found by the local man named Ho Khanh. According to Ho Khanh, at that time he worked as finding a illegal logging. Under the heavy rain in the forest, he decided to find a rain shelter. Coincidently, he discovered the huge enormous cave entrance, with a wide river flowing out of it. Without any rope or gear, Khanh did not go further into the cave.
2. Son Doong was disappeared for 15 years
At that time to discover the Son Doong cave, Ho Khanh didn’t know about the value of this cave. After that, he quite the illegal logging job and come back to farm work. During the next 15 years, this cave was hidden. Until 2006, when a group from the British Cave Research Association came to the new cave in Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park, Ho Khanh told them the last story. Therefore, the journey started finding the cave.
3. Son Doong Cave wasn’t shown on Google Earth
However, the journey to find the cave started is not totally successful. Ho Khanh just remembered the huge cave and 24/24 strong wind. Although they were supported by modern scientific equipment and Google Earth software, they couldn’t find the cave. Until 2009, Ho Khanh headed to the jungle one winter’s morning and re-discovered Son Doong.
4. Son Doong is large enough to become an entire city street inside
Son Doong Cave has been formed for about 2 – 5 million years when the water flows across the limestone area buried along a fault line. It made the erosion and create the current giant tunnel. Son Doong cave is twice as large as Deer Cave in Malaysia with more than 200 meters wide, 150 meters high, and approximately 9 kilometers long.
5. Son Doong Cave is called Great Wall of Vietnam
Son Doong is known as the largest cave in the world. So, with 91.44m wide and 243.84 high, The National Geographic made a comparison that "The cave can comfortably to fit 25 buses stacked". The grandeur and giant of Son Doong landscape help it to be called as “The Great Wall of Vietnam”.
6. Inside Son Doong Cave, tourist can find your own heaven
Son Doong is famous not only giant wide but also the diversity of biology. Inside Son Doong Cave, the explorers found the primeval forest with flora and no sign of the human. The explorers even called the forest in this cave the “Garden of Eden” to celebrate the beauty of this cave.
7. Son Doong Cave owns big pearls
One different point in Son Doong Cave is the system of stalactite and pearl. Additionally, the cave pearls are also the biggest in the world. Ordinarily, the same type of this pearls are only 1cm in diameter but in Son Doong, they are as big as baseballs bowls.
